I had no idea what to expect with The Little Prince. The classic story seemed impossible to adapt to a full-length film and I had no idea what the new story would be. Well, The Little Prince is a very enjoyable family-friendly animated movie!
The cast here is HUGE! James Franco, Jeff Bridges, Paul Rudd, Rachel McAdams, Benicio Del Toro, Paul Giamatti, Ricky Gervais and Albert Brooks all contribute their voices to a variety of wacky characters. They all do a fine job, except for Franco, who just seems very out of place.
The plot of The Little Prince was smartly done. It blends the non-sensical original story with a modern-day tale very nicely. My main issue here is that the third act of the film really didn't work for me. It was completely different than the first two acts. Also, the message of the film is shoved down the audience's throat. It's so brutally obvious that they wanted to teach kids a lesson that it just made me groan.
The animation is the best part of The Little Prince. It had excellent CG animation with a very interesting style when telling the story of The Little Prince. I also enjoyed the musical score, which was strangely done by Hans Zimmer.
Overall, The Little Prince is a fine film. It has a nice story with great animation. However, the third act and the film's obvious message just bogged it down. Rent it.
