The Wind Rises

I was really looking forward to Hayao Miyazaki's last film. I am a huge fan of his and I always enjoy all of his movies. I went to this movie with my dad, who had very low expectations. Well, I'm super glad to say that The Wind Rises exceeded those expectations by a mile and the best way to describe it is in my dad's words," This is the most beautiful animated film I've ever seen". This film has the best hand-drawn animation I have ever witnessed. From the opening shot, this movie was utterly gorgeous. It looked like a moving painting, with amazing colours and great detail. I could not believe how beautiful it looked. The story is amazing, with great characters and very good dialogue. I fell in love with Jiro's character, and I found myself connecting with all of these creative and unique characters. I actually found myself in tears by the end because of how beautiful this film is story-wise. The one problem I had with the movie is that it has some pacing issues. The movie is 2 hours and 10 minutes, and it uses up the time well most of the time. It would have been a flawless film if it was 15 minutes shorter. OVERALL: The Wind Rises deserves to beat Frozen as the best animated picture of 2013. It is beautiful visually and story-wise with great characters. See it if you love Hayao Miyazaki's movies and animation in general. RATING: 9.5/10.
