Ah! It's always great to see a movie which features good acting. Veterans Charlotte Rampling (Georgie Girl, The Damned) and Tom Courtney (The Loneliness of the Long Distance Lover, Dr. Zhivago) create believable characters, a husband and wife seemingly comfortably installed in a 45 year marriage and who are about to celebrate their sapphire anniversary. But, a curve-ball is thrown into the situation which gradually reveals that the marriage is perhaps not so perfect after all. The movie unfolds slowly; it is deliberately low key, the surroundings are buccolic with the English countryside lovingly photographed. Rampling's character, Kate develops feelings of fear and jealousy followed by doubts about the marriage in which she may have been Geoff's (Courtney's) second choice. What develops is a sort of three-way romance between a husband, a wife and a ghost! The acting is peerless. Rampling, in particular, communicates so much with her face and her eyes. Both actors won the Silver Bear for Best Acting at the Berlin Film Festival last year. The film is a great alternative to the adrenalin pumping pics such as Star Wars or Deadpool, currently popular at your local multiplex. 45 Hours is a film about adults, and made for adults and hence, is very rewarding.
