A Good Day to Die Hard

This movie is the perfect example of a movie with a perfect score if you mark it on a scale of 1-6 out of 10. To expand the twisted notion, I'll just say this movie does perfectly what it sets out to do and offers virtually nothing else. If you want to see a near record car body count, big explosions, shattering glass and classic A-Team survival skills from your heroes, you've got a winner. The 4th installment of the franchise was already a clear indication that John Maclean had more than completely severed all ties with even the slightest hint of reality or probability. Nobody should be surprised how silly, or even arguably stupid the story-line is in this follow up. I didn't find John as funny or charming and that might be an indication that this series is pushing its luck. Where the actual good laughs came, and for me there were several, were actually the special effects or the display of wanton destruction. This movie never had a chance to be more than a 6 for me, but on pure destruction and the effects required to pull it off it earned all 6 of those points. Maybe that and a slight nostalgic tug on the heart-strings. John MacLean has conquered Moscow, he probably shouldn't consider taking on interplanetary foes next. The man's done enough.
