This one could almost warrant a 6 purely on visuals, as it was pretty cool to 'look at' if not particularly so to 'listen to'. Overall the story is pretty cheesy and that reality is inescapable throughout. Ewen McGregor comes off as a particularly cheesy character as I just couldn't buy him as a lead, macho swashbuckler... at all. Nothing about the movie is particularly riveting and that includes the tale of romance. The plot itself wasn't as weak as the actual dialogue. Still, those that enjoy the Harry Potters of the movie industry will more than likely get a kick out of it, and enjoy it more than I did. My wife went and loved it, but then again, she's far more forgiving than I am as she also loved Hunger Games, for which I'd give most of the same criticisms. I imagine girls from early teen years right into adulthood would, on average, enjoy this more than their male counterparts.
