Tom Hooper (The King's Speech) directs a film about a difficult, delicate topic with panache and sensitivity. Eddie Redmayne (Theory of Everything)is perfectly cast as the suffering Lily whose struggle to achieve his true gender identity must have been exhausting, as it likely was for his understanding and supportive wife expertly played by Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina.) Her supporting role is really a lead performance which allows her to do more than strut about as an android. It appears she is a star on the rise. The film is, perhaps, not to everyone's taste.
