The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Watched this movie twice in three days, both times in 3D. The first time was the format we've all been used to for many years, the second was the 48 frames per second that's available in AVX theaters. Now I'm a big Hobbit fan and that leaves me biased in favor of the effort to begin with, causing me to rate higher than others may. Furthermore, I always much preferred The Hobbit to the rest of the trilogy which in my earlier excitement I rated as 10s right through. My first viewing was a 10, everything I hope for in an action movie. And while the 48 frame version didn't as some reported, in any way make me dizzy, I could certainly see the difference in glorious fashion during overhead camera views. You really feel the 3D effects dramatically this way and it's truly unique. However, all of the in close shots and the bulk of the movie in general ends up with the feel of an afternoon soap or stage performance and that's not what I want in a movie, particularly action. The 48 frame version for me would be more of a seven. So I've compromised with an overall 9. Everything else about the movie was wonderful.
