Just squeaks up to 6 as I look over my other ratings. Below 6 falls into outright dislike, whereas this movie had some really unique qualities that I really, really liked. Unfortunately, in the writing, too much effort is made to squeeze in a bit of 'everything' and so it seemed a bit of an erratic movie to ever really get into the spirit of it. For a bit at the beginning there's almost a sense of profound, philosophical contemplation going through the mind of our protagonist (a zombie) and this comes off very clever and funny. The romance however, is either too much a stretch to pull off in the first place, or simply a failed attempt at doing so. Certainly it was a challenging environment for romantic/sexual chemistry and it showed unfortunately. Some parts were just cheesy and silly, which didn't seem to fit in a movie with the deeper more clever material. Then you've got some genuinely freaky monsters and what seems an attempt at actual horror, for moments. Next thing you're watching a crazy action chase scene. Just all over the map. Ultimately, it's kind of nice, and fun at times, but feels like it was on the brink of doing something brilliant without quite making it.
