Anomalisa

Anomalisa is a perfect title for a perfectly thought provoking brilliant film, that had a profoundly strange and hypnotic effect on me. The stop motion animation was so incredibly well done. Michael the main character is a self centered man who sees everyone as the same type of person living a mundane existence. And all wearing masks. Michael who is in the midst of a psychological breakdown also wears a mask and in the bathroom scene where it starts to come off there is such fear that surfaces as he struggles to keep it on. So is Michael a mirror for us all to hold up to ourselves?.. When Lisa enters into his world... he is momentarily connected with real human feelings... Sweet, lovely, plain Lisa who is so refreshingly different than the rest, had no realization of how truly different she was. But even she is not enough to keep Michael's inner Demon at bay.  Spoiler alert - click to reveal textThere is an object that come's into his life in the middle of the film that may be his salvation in the end. During desperate times we all pray for an unexpected force to lift us up from the emotional abyss. This is a movie you can analyze over and over, and keep coming up with different truths and realizations about life and who you really are. This was a masterpiece of film making.
