More teen angst from Hollywood; they've been doing this same thing since the 1950s but in different guises every time. This could have been a "thinker"; instead it was almost a stinker, but the excellent acting saved the day. If the writers hadn't decided to treat teenagers as soap opera characters but as young human beings, this story could have challenged all age groups to consider the seductiveness of power. As a metaphor for what is happening all around us it would have been outstandingly thought provoking. Instead, they only briefly hinted at "the rules" and abuse thereof, then swiftly returned to the theme of "somebody needs a hug." The real pity of it is that the teens whom the writers seek to exploit would have been better entertained by the more philosophically challenging aspects of the story. Kids aren't as dumb as Hollyweirdos think they are. Once again, Hollywood wasted the opportunity to make both money and art in favour of trying to make only money.
