Cop Out

For it's genre the movie was fine. The movie is saved from disaster by its secondary characters. Some comedic scenes were hilarious but others especially by the leads, were over done. The cat burglar guy stole the show. His almost ad-lib performance was the show stopper much like the bearded guy in Hangover or Billy Crystal in Tooth Fairy. Truly random stuff. The chemistry between Willis and Tracy Morgan was unconvincing and "tired". There were numerous in fact too numerous scenes where they are arguing on a small point, back and forth and back and forth and back and forth... STOP already. It was funny once but as a repeated pattern in the movie it was annoying. I was disappointed in the macho aspect of Willis. There was no die hard scene for him. He was more of a passenger in this story and never broke a sweat. The sub-plot of his daughter's wedding needed work, in terms of the step dads role. Similarly the other main cops were too dull. The strength of the movie are the minor characters. This movie would appeal to kids (12-16) although I would caution against extreme sexual references... and lots and lots of F bombs. For the older crowd you will notice a sound track quite similar to Beverley Hills Cop... I wonder if it was intentional. Overall it is a pop corn movie that will make kids laugh... but with Alice in Wonderland around the corner I'd wait for that.
