Count Dracula, a mythical creation popularized in the late 1800's by novelist Bram Stoker, was immortalized (pun intended) by movies such as this one. Dracula's fame extends far beyond that of any of Stan Lee's fictitious Marvel Comics characters. This early sound film was bereft of accompanying music, usually a strong participant in horror movies. However squeeking doors, howling wolves, and folks with pasty faces created the desired sense of discomfort. Bela Lugosi's visage and movements defined his movie persona for the rest of his life. Dwight Frye, Dracula's mad assistant, suffered the same fate. I am told a character similar to that of Dracula has appeared in over 100 films.
