This film was a masterful adaptation of a book, "Into Thin Air," written in the '90's -a thrilling, true story based on expedition climbers of the tallest mountain, Everest. The photography and visual effects were so breathtaking that you could almost touch the snow, look down into the never-ending crevices, see and hear the sounds of the most harrowing snowstorm and feel the enormous pain of individual climbers, both physically and emotionally. It's as if you are right there with this big, brave "family" who are bonded by camaraderie and watching out for each other; each sharing the same goal - to reach the peak. The characters were authentically brilliant and evoked pride, hope, sadness, struggles, encouragement and the instinct to survive. The plot moved forward with many twists and turns starting with a beginning of many raw and brutal details necessary for these spirited climbers to know while mobilizing the beginning of their adventure. Every bit of what is entailed in the entire process was done with such precision and much obvious research. It made the movie that much more dramatic and informative. The pace moves quickly with the setting changes which turn this film into a thriller that will have you at the edge of your seat. This film is the most inspiring and captivating movie I have seen this year and is sure to capture an Oscar nod or two. The 3D experience far surpassed any expectations that I had as I looked out into this wondrous stark landscape, asking the question-what prompts these climbers to risk their life in an adventure that occurs at altitudes where 747s fly? The film captivates you from beginning to end and truly is an incredible piece of work, each character taking on a life of their own, so much so that we accompany their expedition with hope for each, yet fear of the perils which lie ahead. I am astounded by the courage and strength of the human spirit within each climber. This is one you don't want to miss.
