As soon as you hear that Will Smith is in a movie, expect a BIG opening week-end. Even if the movie is terrible, the name Will Smith alone brings the audience. His 'Larger Than Life' appeal is usually evident in his Box office receipts. The movie was pretty good but it had the potential to be much better. This movie needed a real antagonist for Hancock. I liked the fact that they explained the origin of his name and sort of where he came from but I would have liked to have more of a background story instead of the rushed history lesson told in about a minute that the audience received. The eventual costume worn by Hancock looked to be taken from the X-Men Wardrobe. The casting was fine but the storyline was lacking a bit. Does the world really need a Superhero of Hancock's calibre when the worse obstacle he has to face is a machine gun or rocket launcher? They could have just as easily thrown toothpicks at him yielding the same results. Maybe he'll eventually face a random meteor or a Tsunami or something really worth his time... otherwise he'll be pretty bored living as an immortal.
