An overdone, overrated musical in so many ways. First of all Barbra Streisand was much too young to play Dolly Levi. What is needed is a middle aged woman. That alone destroys the movie... Gene Kelly's direction is insipid, not very original. The big Parade scene itself cost two million dollars in 1969; that would be some 10 million or more in 2915 dollars. It just doesn't work. None of the supporting players went on to bigger things except Michael Crawford. The film and performances were all routine. Believe it or not HELLO DOLLY got a nomination for BEST FILM of 1969... which was total insanity. The film version of DOLLY is a BOMB!
