This is Hitchcock's "Rope" done with finesse and development. It flows much better than the AH treatment, and has comedy and romance to boot. It also mentions Strangers on a Train, and a bit from Shadow of a Doubt; but the very difficult subject matter of Rope is the real challenge, and is met possibly as best as anyone can. Within the context of this constraint this is perhaps the finest Allen movie ever. I expect that the critics won't have a clue.
