I have to disagree with the raves about this movie. I found the direction lame, the cinematography looked like the work of a first year student in film school during the 1960s, and the script - and particularly the rage of the teenage boy - left me thinking that this was completely unrealistic. Much of the movie is dramatically overacted. I know, from painful personal experience, that teenagers can react violently against their parents, but this movie just seemed immensely self-indulgent and pointless.

Just because you cannot believe the rage of the teenage boy, it doesn't make it unrealistic. This movie was full of rich dialogue of a boy's intimite experiences with his mother. I don't understand how that can be dismissed because you havn't seen it. I can tell you that I have spoken and felt that rage towards my own parents if that can be proof of reality for you. This movie is just not up to your level of understanding. The visual was fun, the music was fitting and good, the characters were funny and touching and the dialogues were stimulating. This movie is far from being pointless.
