This is a great movie. Yes, it's an old fashioned boy's adventure sort of story, but it has been executed with tremendous artistry and commitment. I like this movie as much as Raiders Of The Lost Ark... as much as Pirates Of The Carribean... maybe even as much as Star Wars. The FIRST SF novel I ever bought with my own money was an ERB Barsoom novel. I have waited 50 YEARS to see John Carter and Barsoom on the big screen. I have not been disappointed. I could quibble about a few things that didn't set just right with me, but the quality of everything... the athleticism and sincerity of Taylor Kitsch, the immense charm and sex appeal of Lynn Collins (her Dejah Thoris is a true heroine for the 21st century).. the absolutely tremendous supporting players like Mark Strong, James Pruferoy and Ciaran Hinds, not to mention the absolutely believable CGI work done by Willem Dafoe and Samantha Morton and others (many of whom are genuine stars in their own right) make this story sing. The CGI and sets and art direction are magnificent. I would class them with Lord Of The Rings. This movie is in a class with Avatar... it just lacks the lush jungles and pretension. I can't say enough... just please see this movie. I want a sequel.
