Breathing life back into a franchise like Jurassic Park is no easy feat. Like the dinosaurs they portray, the movies are the stuff of a time long past, and competing with the original thrill of the 1993 classic is almost an insurmountable challenge. Jurassic World accepted that challenge, and while it provides us an entertaining lark through the jungles of Isla Nublar, it fails to reinvent the magic that watching dinosaurs on the big screen provided in Spielberg's initial installment. There's not much new here. Fresh faces and new dangers but little original. So Jurassic World gets by on effects alone and our love for a time we love to dream about. Maybe that's enough.
