    Kill the Messenger

The backbone story of ‘Kill the Messenger’ is interesting – even if it reminds us of something most of us already know, namely how unprincipled and corrupt our system often is. And the way brave reporter Gary Webb’s revelations is told is not very involving : it lacks dramatic impetus and soul, and it is often muddled to the point that I loss interest very early on. The photography is too often very frustratingly distracting : only in scenes shot from some distance from the camera are they sharp and in focus. Also, too many shots are jerky due to the hand-held camera work. An important truth about Webb’s story is missing and is only briefly written in the end credits : his death by (supposed) suicide. The only saving grace is the overall fine acting, especially that of Jeremy Renner in the leading role.
