Machine Gun Preacher

Boy does this film ever pact a wallop! Very tough to watch at times with its several scenes of senseless slaughter, mostly of children, but it demands to be seen. Anyone who thinks we have problems should check out Darfur and the 400,000 people who have been slaughtered there. Gerald Butler, known mostly for his booming portrayal of Leonitis in 300 is superb here. The role of Sam Childers, a drug addicted ex-con that finds Jesus and decides to become a preacher slash mercenary is not an easy one and is certainly the most difficult and layered role Butler has had to portray but does he ever score with this one, proving he can do more than just look tough. Although I've heard from the real life Childers that some of the action is exaggerated for effect, it really doesn't lessen the impact one bit. A powerful piece of film-making with a religious tone that even won over an ardent cynical atheist like myself. Of course it probably won't make a dime cause [people] would rather go see Harry Potter a second time but for anyone with a cerebrum and an IQ above 50 who can sit still for 2 hours I highly recommend this film. Be warned this is not a movie for children!!
