    Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom

After having seen this masterpiece, I am shocked that it is off the "silver" screen and that it was not awarded Oscar! I can only deduce that the reasons were political in nature. This was a truly stellar movie of substance even depicting imperfections of the extra ordinary man, Mandela. The acting was nothing short of superb, and all categories; directing, writing, sets, cinematography, costume, makeup... wove the film into a magnificent story demonstrating the evolution of a truly great spirit. Mandela's legacy reminded me of Ghandi; both backed by great freedom fighters in time who were commanded by respect and inspiration. The sad part is that if we look around the world-has it really changed? Yet the movie relays messages of hope, forgiveness, unlearning of hate, love, loyalty, humanity and the condition of the human spirit. We are all flawed and this is believably portrayed as an important part of the picture. The culture of Mandela's following and the news footage contributed greatly to the emotional realism of it all. This film captivated me, heart and soul; man depicted as rulers of others solely due to the color of skin, power, money, hate... and we have seen this supremacy many times in history."Ordinary Love" by U2 should have nabbed the Grammy for best song; it too delivering an important message of our time and fitting in well with the autobiographical story. The entire film is filled with beauty, great and small despite the brutality and graphic images. The portrayal of Mandela with all his passion restrained in his peaceful manner, helped to realize perhaps a solution to war. It is always inexplicable to me how mankind cannot follow suit with non-violence. It clearly demonstrated the effects of racism, brutality and how ideals can change as a result of. Everyone has a duty to see this film before we destroy our wonderful planet. I'm sorry I waited so long but I am inspired to read the book. I clearly reflect back on my previous "10's" as I have not witnessed a more heartfelt and artful piece of work in a long time. It makes strong statements that we must learn from. Bravo to all who contributing in making this superb quality movie!
