    Must Love Dogs

The cast of "Must Love Dogs" are all talented and the two leads have good chemistry but the plot is standard and the good elements aren't enough to raise the film above an average romantic comedy/drama. It's about a woman (Diane Lane as Sarah) who doesn't want to date, but gets talked into trying online dating and meets a bunch of losers and then finds Jake (John Cusack) They hit it off, but there are misunderstandings and drama and then romance, with some scenes of people walking dogs in the park too.

There are a lot of good things in the film, like Christopher Plummer as Bill, Sarah's father. He is very entertaining and whenever you see him on screen, it's good. Elizabeth Perkins also has some good comedic and dramatic moments. All the actors are good and there are even some nice moments where you feel some real chemistry between the leads but mostly, the humor is standard online dating stuff. You've got your bad dates with people that are written like cartoon characters, exaggerated profiles made out of desperation to attract men and some comedic hijinks during that first date. Sitcom stuff. If you can ignore all of these flaws, it actually plays out as a funny and pretty sweet romance, until the end where the clichés come back right on cue. Although it doesn't actually involve an airport, there is a comedic chase sequence. You won't be groaning and looking at the clock while watching "'Must Love Dogs" (in fact you'll probably enjoy yourself) and if you want a light-as-air romantic film it will do the trick, but you probably won't remember much of it after a few days. I can barely remember it myself. (On DVD, December 10, 2012)
