In spite of all of the negative reviews, I thought this was actually a pretty good film. The trick is to understand what it is and what it is not. If you are looking for a depiction of the Bible story based on your existing understanding of that story, whatever that is, you are bound to be disappointed. But if you go in with no preconceived notions, then it is pretty good. Yes, there are some "supernatural" elements (e. g. the stone "Watchers"), but then the flood itself in this context is also supernatural. In the end, this is a morality play, good versus evil, with Noah charged by God with the task of ridding the world of human evil. And he does, but in the end he discovers that, actually, love conquers all. Some reviews have characterized Russell Crowe as wooden and Jennifer Connelly and Emma Watson as non-entities. Yes, it seems that we spend a lot of time looking at facial close-ups, but those closeups provide the emotional depth for the story and, in my view, they carry the story very well. Probably not Oscar material, but still very good.

Well said! Too many comments based on religion, I believe. There are so many important messages in this film and they all reflect our world today. Film is entertainment and the acting by the key players was superb. "All you need is love."
