The action was good, I don't see much of the boys with toys," Transformer"- type extensions of high school science projects films, so that was interesting, well-handled, visually impressive. Politically, I found the film a mixed-bag. On the one hand, there was a clear attempt to say that the problems the world faces will ultimately require multilateral collaboration. On the other hand, in typically Hollywood fashion, the suggestions are, a. that the U. S. will have to lead it, b. that nuclear weapons might have a good use after all. In the end it was a weirdly phallocentric movie, the men are clearly more into each other in a repressed, Top Gun sort of way, and the one heterosexual moment involves a friendly hug.
