    Sherlock Holmes

Should have opening line of "Holmes... Sherlock Holmes!!" It's a fair romp, through a faux Victorian London, it's not the intellectual, tense, conclusive film it might have been. I think Downey and Law did journeyman jobs, McAdams better than that, but Guy Ritchie's vision of their characters is flawed for me. I think he's a fine, necessary director and look forward to his offerings always, but the quirk is too off centre here. Too much fall back on "glammy" CG, which is false looking always and doesn't convince ever. For the participants it was likely fun and challenging to make. Narrowing the audience appeal target would've been more effective. This is James Bond in collision with Harry Potter somehow. Jeremy Brett's legacy as the definitive Holmes is safe, as are David Burke's and Edward Hardwicke's Watson.
