Nothing recently has surprised me as much as this movie. The trailer made it look like one of those typically goofy movies (not unlike the recent Seth Rogan iterations) in which every 5 or 10 minutes you get a good chuckle and sometimes even a hearty belly laugh. This movie, however, keeps the laughs coming continuously. I begrudgingly went with my 18 year old daughter, and we both laughed continuously from beginning to end. I'm not sure what the secret to its humour was, although it may have been the really believable performance by Tina Fey who portrays a very authentic version of a screwed up parent up trying unsuccessfully to relive her youth. The rest of the cast does a good job too, but most of them play those typically overstated characters that are just there for the slapstick humour. Fey's work is real, and both funny and sad and gives an edge to the movie that was unexpected.
