    Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs is not really a bio-pic, but it does provide a fascinating portrait of a some-what difficult man who is considered to be a real mover and shaker in the development of the personal computer. Michael Fassbender will be a likely candidate for Oscar consideration and so might be Seth Rogen who is a real revelation here in a rare dramatic role as Steve Wozniak. Kate Winslet-a composite character-is also noteworthy. As was seen in Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine (documentary by Alex Gibney) Jobs was a psychological mess whose interpersonal relationships with his former paramour and also daughter, Lisa are painful to witness. His tendency to steal the "thunder" from Woz and the other designers of the Apple products is now well-known. He was not an engineer nor a designer nor a builder, rather he emerged as a charismatic corporate shill. He claimed he was the"conductor "of the orchestra-but really where would he have been without the "musicians"? He would be left waving his baton at empty seats. So, he managed to convince us to buy products that we thought we needed! I am not one to jump on the bandwagon of those acolytes who pronounce that he is a "genius". This word," genius" is bandied about to excess nowadays. I opine that there were only a few true geniuses in History e.g.: Newton, Galileo, Shakespeare, Lister, Marie Currie, Freud, Da Vinci, Einstein and others and currently Stephen Hawking. Aaron Sorkin's writing is densely packed as his work was on the West Wing, so that the movie plays out like a stage presentation with brilliant phrases pronounced by very smart people. The movie turns to treacle at the end in an effort to soften Jobs's image. But, we do have an intriguing movie in the final analysis.
