I remember being a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as a kid, and so how could I not want to see this movie? I was really looking forward to seeing the Turtles on the big screen. My rating however, shows that I did not like this movie nearly as much as I hoped I would. I was not expecting an amazing, original story, great acting and tense direction, but rather a fun entertaining movie with good special effects and some funny dialogue. To a point, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles delivered on what I was hoping for, but fell short in many other areas. Megan Fox is just not a good actress. The delivery of her lines is honestly cringe-worthy and interrupts the flow of the movie. While it may have been intentional, I am not a fan of the directing style. The camera would constantly jerk, shake and move all over the place during many of the action sequences, making it hard to see what is happening on-screen. Even during the non-action scenes, the camera just could not stay still. Finally, while the purpose of this movie is to bring the Ninja Turtles to a new generation of kids, it could have tried a little harder to appeal to those outside of the target audience who would sit through it with the target audience members of their family. While myself, and probably many other fans of the Turtles from years ago felt a sense of nostalgia watching the movie, not much was done to appeal to older audiences. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles could learn a thing or two from Brad Bird and The Incredibles about cross-generational appeal. I applaud this film for for what it is for kids, but I would only recommend this movie to those kids. Older audience members may enjoy seeing characters they love on the big screen; there just isn't much for them other than nostalgia.
