I read the reviews and perhaps went to this movie expecting much more than it was. The story of course is a true one, but usually with this type of true life movie the director takes some liberties and enhances the tear-jerking parts. The lead character was an emotionless man of few words throughout the movie so his accounts of his past were fed to the audience in neutral bits. I think that some of his past should have been dredged up in a more heart wrenching fashion. Or his biological family could have been more invasive to the storyline. Eg a lost brother shows up to rob the house. As for the acting it was very strong. Sandra Bullock is a true professional in her many movies. The other lesser known actors performed well. I just found that this movie fell short for me. For a "feel good" movie, this one left me feeling just OK. Don't get me wrong. In real life, this is a terrific story. I just feel that in cinema it has to be presented with more impact.

Why should more BS be added to give a movie "more impact"? This was based on a true story and, thankfully, real life for most people is not as eventful as you see on the screen. It's when movies have unnecessary drama and suspense added, like "a lost brother shows up to rob the house", that they become corny and predictable.
