    The Cardinal

A three hour drama focusing on a priest, part of his family, the Catholic Church as a strict Institution way back in 1963 complete with all its trappings. Tom Tryon makes for a very good priest as does Carol Lynley as the sister who must face up to her troubles. Director John Huston gives a great Academy Award Nominated performance as a church cleric in the upper echelons. The film will be viewed by many as very dated and melodramatic, but on the whole it presents a vision of church and society that have not totally changed as we are days away from 2016. Otto Preminger directs with a deft hand always seeking the controversial as source material for his films.
