The rom-com genre has required facets, the attraction, the chemistry period, the break/discord and voila. You don't want the voila too soon, then it's immediately boring. It's a more sophisticated film if additional layers are added that keep the audience intrigued - a second or third storyline. Not many do this and this one didn't either. The added layer here, I guess, was the existing partner. The interest was focused on witty banter, which occasionally surfaced, and the eccentric 'besties'. That the existing partner was human was applaudable. Most of it did not break much new ground.
