    The Gunman

The Gunman tries to be a story "torn from today's headlines," but its pretence that mega-corporations operate independently of the very governments which they control is a long outdated myth. That misleading message aside, it's filled with stellar performances by actors who can make silk purses out of cinematic sows' ears. And Sean Penn hasn't lost any of his acting ability or, apparently, any muscle; the man is ugly as a boot but fit as a fiddle. There are great "action" (blood and guts) scenes sporadically throughout the film but it's not an "action flick" per se. All in all, it's a fun popcorn movie if you don't take it too seriously.
