A brilliant work of science fiction. No superheroes; just great acting, extremely well crafted screenplay, magnificent cinematography and first rate special effects to match. Much better than last year's highly acclaimed Gravity. Be forewarned. The movie is not fast paced, taking a long time to reach its crescendo. This pacing is undoubtedly intentional to give maximum effect to the lengthy time that Matt Damon spends alone on Mars. Damon's acting is some of his best ever, with plenty of help from an array of talented, supporting actors. The Martian is certainly an early contender for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. For best impact, see it on the big screen.
