This is a memorable film describing the events that occurred in the mid-1700s when Spain ceded a portion of Paraguay to Portugal. This is a powerful story surrounding Jesuit missionaries, the Guaranis native tribes, slave traders, colonists, and the Portuguese plus Spanish governments. The movie is very educational and enlightening. The acting is superb by all the cast – especially that of Jeremy Irons and Robert De Niro. The costume and makeup are first rate. The cinematography used for the film is beautiful. The main downside to this movie is that there are several historical inaccuracies. Nevertheless, this is a grand production you will remember for a long time.
