This is an exceptional film and indeed the very first film of Kirk Douglas opposite the great Barbara Stanwyk. There's a deep and dark secret that can't be revealed, and it's the perfect 1940's film that could be described in part as a "woman's picture", but that alone would not do it justice. Robert Rossen is a favourite director since seeing All The King's Men and Paul Newman and Piper Laurie in The Hustler. He is an amazing writer as well. This film most definitely deserves a second viewing!
