This movie was on SHOW for the Easter weekend and it definitely was essential viewing, Cecil B. De Mille's second last film. I'm sure the ooh's and aah's were and are plentiful in this biblical epic from the Old Testament but it is not a very good film EXCEPT for some EXCEPTIONAL SPECIAL EFFECTS. Actually, it's worse than bad. De Mille himself, in melodramatic fashion gives an introduction to the film, which to my point of view was totally unnecessary. The screenplay is so bad that it really becomes laughable, most of the script nothing but a series of antique clichés. The acting is no better, quite atrocious from Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner, Anne Baxter, and the worst of all Edward G. Robinson in the only bad performance he ever gave on screen. All of the major and supporting players offer characterizations from poor to somewhat decent! The costume and make-up department deserve " 0 " credit as it all looks so unnaturally unreal, especially when it comes to hair and beards for the men. Cecil B. De Mille was a showman and never directed a good film in his life, never receiving an Oscar nomination. A great many of his films, especially the epics of the biblical nature are rather of the derisive nature. The 4 is for the special effects. I would invite all to see it, but I doubt anyone would label this enormous undertaking as poor film making.

You do realize they spoke biblically, right? It isn't like today's English. I mean, have you ever read the Bible? I haven't, but I found out how a Bible entry would be written by hearing Ezekiel 25:17.
