If one were to be very bold, truthful with the most up to date phraseology one could be quite vile and call Tomboy a very specific sexual film though it concerns children who are about ten or under, still young and innocent, at an age when sexual identity is about to awaken! I want to prudent as this beautiful film allows a naturalness through the eyes of children, one we know, unfortunately, can not endure forever! No matter how we try to make it all pristine clean and perfect, it can never be the sweetness we imagine it to be. Laure, a ten year old girl, is provided an opportunity to embrace her identity when settling into a new neighbourhood outside Paris. She sees how beautifully children play and behave and soon makes a new friend, now calling herself Mickael. In this world almost as magical as LE PETIT PRINCE, one would like to hope for a place very far removed from adult contamination including hateful prejudice that always seems to rear its ugly head confronted with basic innocence, never a problem as seen through the eyes of a child, but frowned on by society at large. It is all so sad we cannot keep our "childhood" eyes well into adulthood and even older age. Let children or grown-ups be exactly who they want to be. Some viewers wanted much more specific detail and information about what is now a very hot topic, the transgender issue. The film left it in a beautiful place and that pleases me a lot!
