Orson Welles wrote the screenplay, directed and was the featured performer in this beautiful film-noir, and gave himself 3rd billing! Alphabetical, maybe. Charlton Heston didn't seem to fit initially, but finally convinced me he belonged. Janet Leigh, never more beautiful, was a force. The backup cast which included Marlene Dietrich was outstanding and the camera work was oh so compelling. The film was apparently butchered by the studio prior to its first release, and Welles never directed in the U. S. again.
