Amazingly engaging adventure tale (based on a true story) follows brave but oddball girl's trek. The picture provides marvelous views of outback Australia. This outdoor drama is redolent of Walkabout and Lawrence of Arabia in its cinematic presentation of a desolate (almost uninhabited and uninhabitable) land. Mia Wasikowska's performance is mesmerizing and noteworthy as she begins to wear the ravages of sand and sun like badges of honour. She is accompanied on her journey by 4 camels and an adorable black Labrador. A rather annoying National Geographic photographer is an unwelcome presence both for her and the audience. Tracks is a wonderful alternative to the tripe fed to audiences in your local multiplex and many of its visuals linger in the memory after the film is over.
