Let's start with the fact that I would have collapsed and died on the first day of a 1000 mile hike. :) Being the kind of person who would not feel compelled to undertake such a punishing "catharsis" in answer to an unraveling life, I thought it would be difficult for me to get into this movie. But step by step, this character pulled me into her journey, her struggles, her insane act of courage to atone for mistakes in her life and searing losses. As she gains strength - physically and emotionally - the audience can practically see the burdens sloughing off this woman. By the end of the movie I was in tears - yet I really don't know why. Reese Witherspoon gives a believable and powerful performance. The film is uplifting and courageous. I do hope she at least earns an Oscar nomination - but she deserves to take home the prize.
