World War Z

I was disappointed by the implausible zombies (and you are giving the writers a lot of leeway when you agree to try to believe in The Undead) who were way too swift both to "turn" and to decay; they looked like they'd been rotting in the sun for weeks within 10 seconds of "infection"! The acting wasn't too bad for a horror/action flick, but the story was weak and plagued by political propaganda: the world is saved by The Noble United Nations, The Noble Israelis who just live to help their Palestinian friends (talk about asking us to suspend disbelief!) and The Noble World Health Organisation. Give me a break. The reason I rated this as highly as I did, however, is that this was the first movie in a long time that had SUSPENSE, that much neglected and long forgotten vital element of so many film genres. I forgave a lot of flaws for the joy of being frequently "on the edge of my seat" instead of merely being drenched in buckets of blood. The tragedy is that this World War Z could have been a great movie if the writers and producers hadn't been so intent on flogging their political views but instead had spent time and effort on writing a better story. Hollyweird continues to disappoint, but I continue to be addicted to the movies.
