This film was funny in many ways, but sadly serious in others. Kristen Wiig is very adept at physical humour, bordering on slapstick, but I was not prepared for the uneasy feelings afterward. As a friend said, it was NOT uplifting in any way. The main character's low self-esteem and horrible relationship, lack of boundaries, jealousy and anger were not at all attractive. The results of food poisoning were disgustingly overdone, but tasteless crotch humour abounds in today's film comedies. I found it interesting that her mother was in AA, a non-drinker who obviously knew she had a "living problem," not necessarily a drinking problem. Too bad her daughter could not see the same in herself. But it's standard fare to prefer to be rescued from the mess you make by a "nice guy" rather than learn to live appropriately and responsibly, without fear of being alone. I fear a lot of women live like this and feel incredibly empty.
