Although it was very interesting and kept the viewer engaged - it really didn't explain anything. For example, why were they hovering over earth to begin with? We never find out what the motivation of the aliens was. There are definite parallels to how humans treat each other when dealing with immigrants and I think that was huge factor throughout the movie. But it falls flat with the plot - it could have been much more intricate.
