This film was expertly paced, superbly acted and had rich, shimmering cinematography. I often felt that I was watching a European film, not an American one. As a Hollywood movie, it was unusual for the amount of subtitles and the french lead actors. Damon was great, as always and I thought his performance was focused and and realistic. It was obvious that a seasoned director in his prime was at the helm. Yes, why not challenge movie-goers and Eastwood fans to something a little different. It's not a perfect film but I never once thought it was too long and the story was at once harrowing and touching, meditative and even humorous. For serious movie-lovers who appreciate film artistry.
