Woody Allen has mostly succeeded in making thought-provoking movies with a light philosophical and artistic touch. MIDNIGHT IN PARIS is definitely in the same line as it revolves around some peoples' tendency to always prefer a former period of history rather than the one they are currently living through. For instance, the main character's preference of the Belle Époque to his present day situation. And there is nothing wrong with this. MIDNIGHT IN PARIS is altogether refreshing and charming with beautifully captured scenes of Parisian historical places. The encounter of the main character with Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, Dali, Gauguin and others is very funny. It was pleasant to sit back and enjoy...
