A cold film with warm feelings. We see winter in all its blinding whiteness. We hear it in each crisp footstep. We feel the loneliness and endure its length. Here, Vigneault’s «Mon pays c’est l’hiver» gets its full meaning. The whole film relies on Gilbert Sicotte’s performance, all in restraint and subtlety. Excellent! The close ups of his face reveal the emptiness and drama of this simple life, replayed billions of times.
