I've seen it three times already. The special effects are absolutely breathtaking, and many scenes are dramatic, emotional, and heartwrenching. Acting is all fantastic, I think it's a masterpiece of a movie.

... the heroic struggle of the survivors... of a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world? How does that work?

Great movie... special effects were awesome it was worth seeing.

Very Good special effects and good use of science fiction. By far the best Disaster Movie Ever made! The story is ok, but it has too many characters (that we don'T care about or connect to) and it takes too long for the trouble to start. A must see in Theatres because it's such a large scale enormous visual ride.

Great special effects. Acting good. Script sucks.

Well, well, well... I regret spending money to watch this movie. I can call it a movie because the special effects are spectacular, the story? It doesn't exist. If Hollywood doesn't know how to portray the end of the world, they should not do it. I can not believe how a few people are so lucky to survive so much damage to the earth, I guess "untouchable people exist". It is up to you if you want to watch something that is like fraud to us, the audience. Forget the end of the world and live day by day. There are better stories to watch, I rather watch cartoons than this crap. I totally regret it. I do Not recommend it, nobody will give me those 2 1/2 hs back from my life. I rated it 1 for the special effects, if there was a 0 I would consider it.

A very good movie worth watching at the cinema. Very well done. I don't know how scientifically accurate this movie is but going to the movies for scientific accuracy is like going to the dentist for an oil change.

Except for the special effects, 2012 is a very bad movie. The movie is so full of clichés and implausible details. To avoid!

Awesome, best movie of the year. Great plot, great story. I would say is a wake up call as all the religions said. One of the holy books said the following: When the earth is shaken with her (violent) shaking, and the earth brings forth her burdens, And man says: What has befallen her? On that day she shall tell her news, Because your Lord had inspired her. On that day men shall come forth in sundry bodies that they may be shown their works. So he who has done an atom's weight of good shall see it. And he who has done an atom's weight of evil shall see it.

Cheesy film, however I must admit that the special fx were pretty good. Too bad the plot was poorly written and that John Cusack (remember 'High Fidelity'? )- normally a great actor- has sunken to playing such mediocre, one-dimensional roles.

Loved the of 2012. Loved the CGI... well done. Fast paced... keeps you on the edge of your seat... a bit slow at the end.

The movie starts out great but slowly unravels and ultimately ends up in the dung heap. The first half of the movie held my attention and had some great special effects but the story becomes uninteresting fast. Wait for video.

Bad plot, as bad as it gets. This movie is completely overrated.

This movie was excellent! Loved it! So much action and keeps you on the edge of your seat to the end. I almost didn't go see it as it got such low ratings over all. What a shame that would have been. Absolutely a must see on the big screen to get the full affect of everything. Wow!!
| 10/10 | victorianielson@ - 27 reviews 7.12.2009 - age: 36-49 |
Great adventure movie. Best of its kind up to now. Fabulous special effects! One of the few "must see" movies for the big screen and sound. Smaller home theatre systems just wouldn't do it justice in my opinion.

Cool special effects. An attempt to rewrite the Noah's Ark story in some respects however. Check out my YouTube review on this movie. Type in 2012, review, globalstudent, Paul Blackmore and you're sure to find it.

What a pile of bullshit, absolutely predictable action scenes, nothing new under the special effects sun, blame the sun for global warming propaganda. Collection of US clichés.
| 1/10 | gdelac77@ - first review 6.12.2009 - age: 26-35 |
A thrill a minute (actually more like a thrill a second), pretty good special effects. It is necessary however to check your brain at the door and just enjoy the movie for what it is... a rollercoaster ride... none of the action sequences the family went throught are remotely possible or plausable, but hey, it's hollywood.

It's almost 3 hours but it doesn't feel long because you really want the heroes to survive and feel like you're really going on this journey with them.
| 10/10 | yagoorootoo@ - first review 6.12.2009 - age: 13-17 |
The special effects were good, the plot was horrible. Very cliche, everything except for the explosions and volcanoes was boring. If you cut out everything except for the spacial effects, this movie would be a lot better.

| 9/10 | chiicka96@ - first review 6.12.2009 - age: 26-35 |
I don't really get why people are saying it was that bad. It was entertaining, and that's what a movie should be. It wasn't supposed to be a thesis on the end of the world, just a good movie to watch. Great FX and almost no time to get bored (except if you start knit picking and finding logical mistakes...)
| 7/10 | fabre78@ - 15 reviews 6.12.2009 - age: 26-35 |

I didn't expect much, but this was pathetic. Look at it as a comedy, and you could enjoy yourself. FX are good. Story is just bad bad bad bad bad!

| 4/10 | i_f@ - 3 reviews 5.12.2009 - age: 26-35 |
If you're going to see this flick, might as well see it on the big screen. The effects are top notch and the plot is interesting but the distress of the main characters gets more than a little redundant. Basically I wanted to see a stupid movie with a bunch of effects and I mostly wanted to be entertained, and I was. To be avoided if your the type of person who's going to complain about dumb plots... unless you like to complain.
| 6/10 | ryanfleury@ - 3 reviews 5.12.2009 - age: 26-35 |
I went to see this movie just for the special effect people talk about. It turned out to be dragging near the end of the movie. And why is it always u. s. that wants to save the world?

If you are interesting on spend about 3 hours on special effects, just go ahead! On the other hand, if you are looking for more scientific data, don't wast your time. Before going to watch this movie, I was wondering they would show some terrible true facts about the world, like he is right now. Considering that a lot of teenagers will watch this movie, they should have focused on showing them, some real problems and why the world is changing so fast! But, probably, this wouldn't make a lot of money, and wouldn't be part of the Hollywood stereotype. And, just one thing more... one of the last parts of the movie when the boy is carrying a dog and the girl asks to hold him for a while, the boy says: "he can be yours also, if you want". What? People don't even share a "good morning!". (Alicia)

I think Roland Emmerich is a great writer/producer so I was expecting something that would live up to The Day After Tommorrow or Independance Day. I was so disappointed. The characters weren't developed and, given the subject matter, I found it to be more of a comedy than anything else. If you want to see a good movie, skip this one and rent or buy The Day After Tomorrow and/or Independance Day.
| 3/10 | mbouch2@ - 2 reviews 5.12.2009 - age: 50+ |
The action was spectacular. Great special effects that definitely added to the overall movie. The storyline was really predicatable but then again, that can be expected in a movie about the end of the world. It's a fun experience and there are still moments when you find yourself holding your breath or squirming in your seat.

All that Hollywood hype for nothing! They could have made this movie an hour & a half like most movies but instead dragged it on for almost 3! What a waste of time!
| 2/10 | blue_eyedlady80@ - 3 reviews 4.12.2009 - age: 26-35 |
Very dissapointing! Excellent special effects and a potentially great story ruined by your typical Hollywood inane, sophmoric, cliched pro-American drivel.

2012 is a very entertaining movie A LOT of visual effects to keep u on the edge of your seat the movie is also based on an interesting topic: the apocalypse however, as the movie draws closer to the ending the movie makes less sense and u will see some flaws in terms of logic in the film.

I'm actually ashamed that I sat for the entire 2.5 hours of this wretched movie. Near the end, I felt as though I was in a torture chamber. Without a doubt, the single worst piece of *$#%! I have EVER seen. I highly recommend NEVER seeing this thing, not even in the privacy of your own home, on DVD.

So I will admit the action sequences are more than a little absurd, but it was a good movie all around. I thought the acting was not that bad, although the "romance" parts of the movie I found annoying as they were generally placed in times of great distress where all you want is for the actor to get on with it and fix the problem. Overall a really well done film, great action and effects and would recommend this to anyone looking for an end of the world action film.
