There seem to be two views of this film, the one is what many of the posters say here, wonderful, inspirational. The other is it seemed like it was stiff and contrived. I'm in the second camp. I really wanted to like it, but I thought Martin Sheen overplayed the role (way too crusty, way too drunk etc.) and the story itself seemed uneven. For those with a personal connection to the El Camino maybe it resonates differently. I will give Emilio credit for not overplaying the religious aspect which was tricky given the material, he found a very good balance on that.
