End of Watch is a nice cop movie, with what was probably a low budget, but still a nice result. It was entertaining, with lots of action. The story and dialogues were pretty basic though.

An over-the-top exaggerated foray into the world of ghetto policing seen through the eyes of two brash, belligerent, and disrespectful LAPD rookies. The two characters are little better than the thugs they bring down and their unrealistic and unprofessional relationship with each other, their peers, and superiors is eye-rolling at best. It's gritty, obscene, jarring, and dull.

Nothing really new here but still worth seeing. A good chemistry cop movie that explores the police fraternity. A good display of kinship between brothers and sisters who wear the badge to protect and serve.

The police versus the criminals/gangs etc. Sacrificing your life for others. It's part of team work. I know a lot of people in the theatre did not like the camera scenes but I expected it when guns are firing. Overall, great movie. Worth my toonie.
| 9/10 | metalandy2000@ - 84 reviews 6.2.2013 - age: 36-49 |
Excellent film except for the overuse of the 'F' word.
| 9/10 | only_one_tony@ - 2 reviews 24.12.2012 - age: 50+ |
The chemistry between Jake and Michael is flawless. Exciting, funny, tragic. Overall a great movie.
| 9/10 | gvak@ - 6 reviews 7.12.2012 - age: 26-35 |
It would have been better if the show was not set on handheld the whole entire time. It was annoying that it gave me a migraine. Heads up, it was shot like those tv reality cop chase shows the entire length of the movie. Not my cup of tea for sure.
| 6/10 | shazjoao@ - 1723 reviews 18.11.2012 |
The camera was all over the place, the swearing was extreme I can tolerate most things but we walked out on this one, first time I ever did this.
| 1/10 | idonda@ - 35 reviews 16.11.2012 - age: 50+ |
I throughly enjoyed this movie!!! It was raw; gritty and realistic!! The relationship between the partners is the storyline... The rest was what gangland IS in Los Angeles!!
| 9/10 | irishlove@ - first review 4.11.2012 - age: 50+ |
I was surprised that I enjoyed this movie. It was brutal and the 'F' word used constantly. This aside, the movie was engaging. My husband did not care for the Blair Witch filming technique, but did enjoy all the action and suspense.
| 7/10 | dcbiggin@ - 4 reviews 1.11.2012 - age: 50+ |
Funky camera shots aside, it's just an average cop story. Pretty simple story telling that portrays the cops in a good light. It's an enjoyable watch but there's nothing really special about it. There are parts where the dialogue seems pretty awkward and the ending isn't much of a surprise.
| 6/10 | parker_2@ - 296 reviews 31.10.2012 - age: 36-49 |
Good cop movie with lots of action and different camera technique. I'm not sure that cops in the real world would do some of the stuff that the two main characters did.
| 7/10 | j.stasiw@ - first review 24.10.2012 - age: 50+ |
A very compelling, "no holds barred" and emotionally charged movie which capsulizes many of the trials and joy of being a cop, particularly in Los Angeles. It has also a unique method of presentation - almost like a documentary in a movie.
| 8/10 | frankpearce@ - first review 21.10.2012 - age: 50+ |
Ok so the tough cop on the streets of LA storyline has been done to death by screenwriter David Ayer who also penned (Training Day, Street Kings, Harsh Times, Dark Blue) all about LA cops. It seems this is the only topic Ayer feels comfortable exploring. Yet what more could actually be said about LA "PO-licing" that hasn't already been covered, by the screenwriters own work no less? The answer is not much. Even worse for Ayer is that there ain't no scene stealing Denzel Washington this time around. However, Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena are both excellent as partners who unwittingly bring down a green light on themselves for assassination by a ruthless Hispanic cartel. Besides that somewhat original premise, the film contains the usual profanity laced exchanges, crying spouses, pissed off superior speeches and occasional gun battles that permeate most of the cop dramas that have come before. The use of hand held cameras not only increases the tension, but adds to the overall sense of realism, which remains the film's strongest selling point. Unfortunately, there really isn't anything new to admire here. No one would doubt that being a beat cop in LA is enticing and entertaining dramatic territory, but how many films have to be made before audiences get the point?

Not worth seeing. Don't go unless you have the mentality of a 12 year old.
| 3/10 | katedev@ - 17 reviews 14.10.2012 - age: 13-17 |
With all the hype comparing EOW to Training Day I was pumped. I went the first Monday it was out (due to my work schedule), The 12 o'clock show to find the theatre 3/4 full. The action scenes were really good & looked like it was a two hour episode of Cops. I thought it dragged a bit at times. All in all very very good movie but no Training Day. I would not be surprised if Michael Pena gets an Oscar nod for Supporting Actor!

I think this movie succeeds in two ways. The trailer does not mislead you- it delivers exactly that. And relationship between both partners is very realistic. You actually feel the bond there. Some of the action and developments may be slightly over the top but again, this is a Hollywood movie.
| 9/10 | thorn@ - 33 reviews 14.10.2012 - age: 36-49 |
This movie is basically a ride along with a couple of cops who are also really good buddies. You can't help but to get attached to them. This movie has lots of action and suspense. It is really gruesome - so be warned, but it is a very good movie. Very real.
| 7/10 | gacar017@ - 62 reviews 12.10.2012 - age: 26-35 |
Very long movie, lots of eternal close ups. Some action, but very disappointing ending.
| 5/10 | elainevernier@ - 2 reviews 12.10.2012 - age: 36-49 |
This could have been a good movie? But as it stands, it's just fill-in (Until your show starts on TV.) [...]

I totally agree with the comments from ditiberia, I too thought the acting was poor, and also thought Jake Gyllenhaal was better looking, clearly I was mistaken, certainly not a suspense packed movie and some of Jake's lines I felt were uncalled for and well, disgusting when referring to his senior officer... I think the people know what scene I mean. And no [I] really don't think this portrays the day to day life of real cops, even not being one myself there were things I picked up on that would be a definite no no for a cop to do when defending himself, so no wouldn't recommend this one unless you have literally no better way to kill an afternoon!
| 3/10 | pamarcher99@ - 12 reviews 9.10.2012 - age: 36-49 |
Excellent performance by both Pena and Gyllenhaal. The story was very captivating...

I walked out half way through. The buddy cop thing has been done to death and this film adds nothing original to the mix. The documentary style filming did not add anything for me. And all the attention to these guys private lives was beyond boring to me. Also, it is implausible that the same two cops are going to see that much action in one shift. I fail to see why this film got rated so high by critics.

Really interesting but awesome bad-ass cop action/comedy movie, it sucked that Micheal Peta died but still great.
| 8/10 | jordanmahdi@ - 44 reviews 8.10.2012 - age: 13-17 |
Gyllenhaal & Pena are amazing in this movie. Finally a great movie that gives a glimpse into the reality of what it is to be in law enforcement. It's nice to see that the "thugs" and cops are not glorified and turned into heroes. Shows the coppers as they are, human and full of flaws. Truly one of my favorite movies. People who say that this movie has "no plot" are probably the same people who love to be spoon feed the same old over done "plots" out of Hollywood.

This will by my last shakey camera "Blair Witch" style of film I ever watch. Poor acting, poor plot, I couldn't wait until it was over.

Action, comedy and Jake Gyllenhaal! The movie was entertaining and interesting. Had some disturbing parts but overall fun to watch.

I was sceptical about seeing it, and I usually avoid movies that are hand held camera based. But, once you start watching it and get into the storyline, one word can only describe: excellent.
| 9/10 | cappy@ - first review 7.10.2012 - age: 36-49 |
This movie is just a glorified extended episode of Cops. There was no storyline. Save your money.
| 2/10 | dlavallie@ - first review 6.10.2012 - age: 36-49 |
This movie is excellent. The pacing of the story is fantastic. It seemed to me that there was never a dull moment in the movie. And you know what, this is a movie that is suppose to depict real life situations on the streets of L. A. So the people who gave negative reviews of the movie because of all of the excessive swearing and violence really should get a grip. Of course there is going to be heavy dose of swearing and violence in this movie! It's a cop story that is set in one of the most violent, gang-entrenched cities in the United States. Personally, I want all of my gangster style movies to be portrayed very realistically. That's the only way a story like this should be told.

If you want to watch a movie version of the TV show "Cops" then you'll get exactly that. This movie had poor acting, poor filming, and a storyline that just flits from one crime to the next. It doesn't have a plot. It's really just two cops filming clips of their day job with a sad ending to add dramatic effect... how cliche.
| 3/10 | amerzzz@ - 32 reviews 5.10.2012 - age: 26-35 |
Alright movie but less action than what the trailer leads you to believe. Storyline is weak however the drama is high. It is a decent insight on police lifestyle and risks taken by the families involved.
| 5/10 | megaman@ - first review 5.10.2012 - age: 26-35 |
So I went into this movie expecting some ridiculous camera shaking around enough to make me dizzy or want to leave and it simply DID NOT HAPPEN. The camera shake is NOT that bad, certainly not as bad as some [people] are making it out to be. The movie is clearly filmed in that manner, it's clear from the start and there's no attempt to hide it... [...] The movie is very good, funny, dramatic and exciting... you WANT to see what will happen next, the story moves along quite quickly. I really enjoyed this one!
| 9/10 | katmanking@ - 8 reviews 5.10.2012 - age: 26-35 |
It's a good movie. The relationship between the two partners is the best part of the movie. While there are plenty of good cop movies and there aren't that many real surprises in the plot line, the quality of the direction and the acting is such that it keeps your attention.

I loved this movie, great acting and the stories are real. Police officers are real heroes and this is what they do every day to us keep safe and to protect our freedom. I will see it again. God bless LAPD.

This movie was awesome... The only thing is if you get motion sickness DO NOT WATCH IN THEATRES. They are video taping for most of the movie so it's very sensitive for you if you can't handle the motion. I really liked this movie.

No story line, low budget, extreme swearing, shaky camera, aweful, others left and girlfriend slept.
| 1/10 | chadrobinson75@ - first review 2.10.2012 - age: 36-49 |
Basically, this film is boring. It is like an episode of the seventies TV show "Adam-12", where 2 L. A. cops get called by the dispatcher to investigate various disturbances. Sure, there is more violence involved and about 1000 F-Bombs - in order to give the impression of grittiness - but there is no cohesive storyline to involve the viewer. Also, whenever the criminals spoke, I was hard-pressed to understand their thick accents and slang. Only the last 10% of the movie is exciting.

Went somewhat reluctantly to see this movie last week as there wasn't much else. I thought it would be just another run of the mill police flick but I was totally wrong. Even though I am not a fan of handheld camera scenes (makes me nauseous) It just worked and was almost necessary as it was built into the storyline. It felt like real life and both actors are totally believable and top notch. It most certainly packs a punch. Came out of the cinema somewhat shaken. Quite violent but it was expected as it is in South Central Los Angeles. I commend the L. A. P. D. and would not want their job for all the tea in China. Excellent Movie!

OMG I thought it was just going to be another movie like all the rest, but this one had me at the end of my seat the whole movie it was just incredible, what these cops do and I would like to think it was based on true events that did happen. It made me have tears at the end of it. Great movie, they really out did them self in this movie.

After the movie, Blair Witch Project, I'm not a fan of shaky camera. I guess the director used this method to get realism into his movie. I felt I was viewing the tv program, Cops. Some scenes appear to be what might actually happen down there but it could be an big Hollywood exaggeration. The acting was superb. I cant believe the fire power of the bad guys and their blazon ways. I was waiting for a tank to roll in. There wasn't really a plot to the movie but instead showed what police officers and their families go through day to day. Over all good movie.
